An Introduction to Alternate Views.

The tabular and columnar views of a grid can convey a lot of information, but the human eye is much more sensitive to shapes and colors than it is to variations text. With an alternate view of a grid, you can display the same information in a way that grabs the users attention.

Has Alternate Views

If checked, the Has Alternate Views property enables you to place alternate views on your grid.

Alternate Views definition

This is where you define what your alternate view is (chart, map, or custom), what it looks like, and what it does.

Main View

When you open the Alternate View Builder you will see a Main View tab to the left of the Alternate View tab. The Main View is the 'standard view' for your grid. This is where you define how an alternate view fits into the Grid Part of your component.

Alternate View Type

There are three types of Alternate Views that you can add to your grid; Chart, Custom, and Google Map.

Chart Alternate View

You can use an Alternate View to access the Google Charts API.

Custom Alternate View

The custom alternate Grid view allows you create expressions that will be processed from the data in the grid display and an Xbasic function to turn the arrays of expression values into an actual view. This is the infrastructure that allowed Alpha Software to turn a Google Map Component into a Google Map alternate view.
